The fact Eliot started off with sweet reminiscences of childhood fancies and childish troubles, then follow it with a slow and tormenting descent towards downfall is just so heart-wrenching. I think it's because I've experienced similar circumstances as the Tulliver family, and the haunting feeling of things not being the same as it was and will never be is always a feeling that's all too familiar for me.
