Reading the review didn’t prepare me for this book! It’s a hard, dark, hopeless world but the writing is lyrical, rich, potent. Yes there’s some descriptions of maggots and stuff at the start, but it’s the resignation to fate, the hopelessness and the court intrigue that’s gripping me. Elara could have been a good person, a gentle person but she hasn’t been dealt that hand.
