The strange hikizuri siblings: the séance: 4/5 okay so I genuinely laughed quite a lot at this story. I like how the young daughter kept thinking that the mother would come out of the ectoplasm (she did not) and the fake séance was pretty funny. Anyway there’s not much to say about this one. On to the next one!

The rib women: 3/5 stars. I thought this was going to be the worst story I would ever read. Everyone said it was terrible. It wasn’t. It was fine. It was mediocre. The scares where on point, and the rib women makes a cool villain. It was fine. Not much else to say about it

The mansion of Phantom Pain 3.5/5 stars. It was okay. The ending was weird and ambiguous but just like Lovesickness, it was really atmospheric. I liked it fine. It was not the best but it was not the worst either.

The strange hikizuri siblings: Narumi’s boyfriend 3/5 stars. Okay so this is basically Japanese Adam’s family, and it’s pretty funny. I got to say, Junji Ito really is leaning into the sucide theme here, with the daughter repeatedly saying she will kill herself with a box cutter. Anyway the scene where they make the boyfriend sleep with what he thinks is a dead boy but is actually a burned manikin was funny

Lovesickness: The Boy in White: 4/5 so I have questions. I like the protagonist becoming an opposite of the man in black but also perpetuating the cycle of suicide? Idk the ending is vaguely positive? I don’t know how to feel about this.. anyway the story is overall good!

Lovesickness: screams in the night 5/5: Jesus, so much happened in this chapter. We got the man in black getting a INCREDIBLE MASS SUCIDE TO HAPPEN, we got the protagonist getting fed rats becuse his love interest got told to hate him, and we got the husband of the crazy women from the background of the protagonist AND the current lover of the girl from chapter two talking to the protagonist! I’m out of space, bye

Lovesickness: shadow 3.5/5 stars. Okay I like this one less. Still good, the twist was phenomenal, but it seems to have an opposite problem with the last one. I think most of this collection so far is about PTSD. But this one is kinda about the horror of becoming a celebrity. Anyway, I do like this one a lot. On to the next one!

a woman in distress. 4/5 stars. Okay look, this was less subtle but I still liked it, and I was ready to give it 5 stars until the end, when it revealed that she was purposely actively making problems for herself because the mysterious man told her too. It felt anticlimactic. Still, the scene where she kills her baby with a flower pot was great, and I have never been scared by a full body tattoo until now (Out of sp

Lovesickness: the beautiful boy at the crossroads. 5/5 stars. I love it. I think it’s way more subtle horror than normal Junji Ito, and it’s more terrifying that way. The man at the crossroads(or woman, he looks like he could be both to me but I guess everyone refers to him as a man so I’ll refer to him as that from now on) does not have anything overtly creepy but is creepy nonetheless. Anyway it’s great.
