Rest in peace Mr. Touchett.. What a wild conversation between him and Ralph to remember him by lol
Speaking of Ralph, I love him. Giving half of his inheritance away so she can live freely, without marrying for money or at all if she chooses not to??? Goodwood and Warburton could never. All they gave her was emotional turmoil. I guess I understand it’s hard to take rejection, they were speaking out of emotion..

Having just attended a class, wow!! So not confirmed, but heavily implied that Henry James was gay. Not meant to sound as if I’m generalizing this sexuality, but it has cleared up why James was able to portray a woman in such a way that shocked me. It’s possible for the straight man to truly see women, sure. But many don’t. Many choose not to. The influence of his cousin Minny Temple also contributes to it!

Wordle was right about pshaw.
Also, what an interesting way to display some of the more common misunderstandings that takes place between a man and a woman when conversing. On the topic of marriage, Henrietta mentioning that it’s everyone’s duty to marry became translated to Ralph seeing it as her way of encouraging interest.
Like yes, that’s soo human! I think it depends on the individuals too, of course.

I feel a connection with Isabel, as I imagine many people who read this book do. I love her already.
And I’m loving this novel already, I can’t thank Professor Hunter enough for making this one of the assigned readings this semester.
I can’t believe there was ever a possibility that I went my entire life without reading this book! And I’m only at the beginning wow
