Pertaining to my last comment, I am reminded not to assume the "history" of a historical fiction, so the stated attitudes about the humanity/barbarism of the Japanese & Germans might more-or-less be accurate for this current setting/world. Some alternative facts have now illustrated their history (even pre-war) is different.

Wondering where Baynes has come from. Thinking perhaps farther than just Europe.

Already a couple times the Japanese conquerors of the West Coast have been described as more humane than the German conquerors of the East Coast, and I understand this is fiction, but the reasoning seems strangely ahistorical. Yes, Nazi Germans made exterminating many non-Germans a key part of their mission. But I'm sure at Dick's time it was also known how barbaric the Japanese had been to the Chinese, & in warfare.

Wanted to read this book after seeing the TV series & also having been a fan of "Do Androids..." Fun so far. Love seeing the white characters having to manage living in a world where, in the early ch.s, the Japanese are in charge & have been for a while. It's fascinating. Amazed at some horrors I think the series left out—the racism of some important characters; renewed black slavery; genocides of Africa by the Reich
