I just finished reading Chapter 8, and I'm feeling kind of stupefied at how poorly written the erotica is. I found the build-up very emotional and romantic, but the descriptions of action didn't always make sense. With that said, I don't expect literary genius in this novel. The writing could be tighter, a tad more abstract, but this author's quite gifted at connecting readers to her characters.

Chapter 21-23: Can't believe I've nearly finished this super-long book and the story, really, has never gotten off the ground. I get this is the story of this couple's beginning, and I think some growth has occurred, but it's appallingly slow-paced. Looking forward to finishing this.

Chapters 18-20: I'm determined to complete this read before the New Year! These chapters flowed pretty well together and read easily, but I wish the pacing in this novel was a bit more consistent.

Chapter 16: What a chapter. All the elements in the story really "popped" here, and it was both sexy and emotionally chaotic. Really beautiful writing, too.

Read Chapters 12-14: I find the pacing of this book way too slow. To some extent, it's preferable to stories too fast-paced and lacking in detail, but it still gets a bit tedious. The style reminds me of the serialized stories popular in Victorian newspapers. After a chapter or two, I'm ready to stop for a week.

Read Chapters 9-11: It's moving along. Funny thing about this book is I find it entertaining when I read it, but it's also easy to put down and forget about. I'm very inteested while I'm reading, but I do't "miss" the book when I put it away. I must say James made Bella and Edward far more interesting than Meyer ever did.

Just finished reading Chapter 5. Whatever this book's failings, James does an excellent job of communicating emotion and crackling chemistry between Ana and Christian.

Chapters 1-4: So far, so good. This isn't the most exciting book on the planet, but I wouldn't call it lousy, either. A's voice is emotional and sincere. I think I see where the mass appeal of this series comes from.
