Herron really knows how to turn a phrase. Sometimes I underline sentences because I’m in awe of the way he can express or describe something.
The page long blocks of text are eye-crossing though. He never uses a Jewish last name unless it’s applied to a distasteful character. I paused to comment b/c in one of the Slow Horses novels he was ALL IN on covid and restrictions and in this 2023 novel, he still is.

The story has bogged down. A whole lotta telling rather than showing. The author is pontificating through Taverner and it doesn’t sit right.
