Unpopular opinion: Fitz and Sophie are cute in this book. Do I ship them? NO. SOKEEFE ALL THE WAY. But like, he hasn’t turned toxic yet, and so they’re honestly kinda cute

How is Fitz toxic? I've read the books 9 times, and I don't feel like he does anything bad in particular (most of the time Sophie screws up and she tries way too hard to justify things in her head, making Fitz seem like the villain).
Ok so here’s my thing—I don’t hate Fitz. I’ll always defend him, and I think he’s a great and complicated character. So I really do like him. However, I don’t like how he started treating Sophie in the later books. Especially with the whole matchmaking thing. He was putting so much pressure on her, which she did NOT need added to her life. So while I think he’s a very well written character and I’ll always defend him, he’s just not right for Sophie
Fitz was great, and I think he and Sophie had some chemistry going for a bit, but he thought too much about what others would think if he married someone who was unmatchable, and things went downhill from there. Fitz was great... but Sophie and Keefe have always been perfect for each other from the beginning 😉

Additionally, I don't think that Fitz would understand why anyone would want to be a bad match. In his mind, he was protecting Sophie. There's also the fact that Sophie was obsessed about finding her parents until she discovered that her mom was Oralie. Fitz was genuinely confused about this during the breakup, which probably made him seem more insensitive.
Hot take: Keefe is just a s toxic as Fitz, or even more so. Fitz was pushy yes and had a few anger/jealousy issues. But Keefe repeatedly runs off and does crap then doesn’t apologize, he scares Sophie with his antics and is crazy immature, he just always runs away and does whatever he wants and doesn’t take responsibility.
Idk I read these books and just stopped caring after like book 5 bc it got too much about the love triangle and romance and “matches” and I didn’t even know what was happening with the bad guys. Plus Shannon takes flippin forever to finish the books so I just gave up and moved on.
I disagree on Keefe, but I understand where you’re coming from, Finch. I think Keefe, while he did some terrible things, is justified because of all of the trauma he went through. If you didn’t get past book 5, you probably didn’t get into the meat of that. But he goes through some HORRIBLE things, and growing up in the toxic and manipulative environment that he did, it’s honestly a miracle that he came out as ok as he is (which isn’t very ok. But let’s be real, if this weren’t classified as a kids series, Keefe would be extraordinarily depressed and most likely suicidal.) And he does start to take responsibility later. Though I definitely agree with you on that last thought…we lowkey still don’t even know what the Neverseen actually want💀 and Shannon does take FOREVERRR to come out with the books. I get that she’s a mom now and doesn’t have as much time, but it’s been three years since the last book…
@Eva Marie I agree!! Keefe has had it ROUGH. And he has kind of started to grow out of it the farther in you get. Sure, he still does some super dumb things, but don't we all??
