I think Jack's mental stability is pretty much shredded. There's so much anger and loss and other negative emotions that he just doesn't have any stable footing to stay rational.

"Hell has nothing to do with fire.
It's not about physical pain. It's not about smoke that scorches your lungs or ash gritting your eyes.
It's the lies other people tell you.
And the lies you tell yourself."

I feel for Teagan here. Carlos' betrayal and arrogance, the loss of a friendship and trust she thought she had. It's devastating and heavy

"I grasp, almost sobbing, push harder. Knowing I can't do it, not caring. There's an awful hole feeling building inside me now, swelling like a balloon in my chest, nothing inside it but empty air."

This is heart breaking :(

Carlos KNEW about Jake? That's why he was telling Teagan to run! He already knew who it was and was in way over his head. I can't wait to find out more details

"The second Paul brings the truck to a stop—the very second — I'm out the door and barreling into Carlos, wrapping my arms around him. I'm not usually an emotional person, but it's been kind of a stressful day."

I love Teagan and Carlos' friendship ❤️

Gathering thoughts again. Jake is fucked up. I know he has a lot of trauma, but jesus. The shit he's doing to the family of the last guy is horrible, and he's starting to justify it. He's trying to pretend he's not the bad guy here. It's sickening, and well written

Just gathering my thoughts after the last chapter. It seems like Paul and Annie never really trusted Teagan, and may have actually been afraid of her. I know some people struggle to come to terms with things that are outside their knowledge, and that sometimes that turns into fear and resentment. It seems like that's what's happening now. I'm glad Reggie and Carlos defended her though. I wonder why Jake is doing this

"Oh, fuck this. I'm sorry, but fuck it. Right now I'm so tired I'm not sure I can make it to the bedroom, let alone get my clothes off. Solutions to life's problems can wait."

Real

"—but I still don't enjoy getting up at ass o' clock and hustling to the office, just so we can drive to some godforsaken house in Downey to Torrence to move furniture" love the way this was worded lmao
