Chapter one started off great and exciting but the author’s use of gender-neutral pronouns (xe/xir) takes you out of the story a bit because you’re constantly having to reread to understand who the pronouns are referring to. So far, the gender-neutral pronouns don’t add anything to the story, especially given that the setting is a Pre-Columbian indigenous civilization. Will continue reading
