There's so much complexity in this book, and I really appreciate how much information the author adds about the Hmong and their cultural history. It adds so much understanding of them as a people as the story unfolds. It's also brought up a lot of questions for me about what it looks like to have cultural humility, especially within healthcare spaces.

This book is so gut-wrenching yet captivating. I find myself intrigued by learning about the history of the Hmong while also learning more about Lia's journey through the medical system. Curious to see where the book continues to go.

I'm reading this book for class, but I can't put it down for multiple reasons. The longer I read this book, the angrier and more upset I feel about how doctors and the system can treat patients. Time and time again, it feels as though, at the end of the day, patients don't matter enough to take the needed extra steps. To be fair, this is largely due to so many people needing help, but watching this unfold is painful
