The word that keeps popping into my head about this title? "Unexamined". There are so very, very many cultural assumptions Winchester makes that go utterly unexamined. It's hair-pullingly frustrating.

Holy cow, this book just took a hard left turn into Colonialist-ville. The language is beautiful, and the romanticizing is real. Bleh.
