Has the same problems as the movie (surprise?), but like it just has a different dramatic subplot to replace it. If anything the movie tones down the clashing of the tones, which I was hoping the book would somehow help.

Guys the fake book where the narrator speaks in a heavy ghetto accent is a significant portion of the book. Like from page 60-120 (according to my Kindle). The dead horse is getting beaten

Waiting for the funny moments to hit...any moment now. As of now, it's just an interesting character drama with a bit of humor but it is in no way a satire except for him reading a racist book.

I really didn't like the movie but this book is still touted as his best work. So far, first chapter, is just setting the stage so I don't have much to say.
