How am I supposed to take this book’s arguments seriously when, from the very beginning, it suggests that Astarte’s identity as a female deity was somehow concealed in the bible, despite the Bible explicitly identifying her as a goddess and the consort of Baal? I’m quite disappointed. I expected a historically grounded exploration of ancient religions, but this is full of generalisations and inaccuracies..
