“No one saw its sleepy eyes, or shades shut like eyelids” (King 25). My main thing of note in this novel so far is how often Penelope uses sleep as a literary device. Her mom's nicknames based on her sleep habits, her sleepy house , and her own fatigue. I think this is going to develop into a metaphor for depression and potentially one for post traumatic stress disorder that might cause her to feel fatigued.
