Jan B.’s Reviews > The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary – Volume 1: The Five Books of Moses > Status Update

(3 Volume set... Translation with footnotes.) I read first in Hebrew, then I read Alter's translation to see how I think he did. And I read all his footnotes. He has wonderful notes! He writes why he chose one word over another, or what that practice was in the Ancient Near East at the time of the Scripture writing, or explains the usage of unusual words, etc. I find it very helpful to my studies and understanding!
