i really really loved shelob's lair and the choices of master gamgee - sam is just such a compelling character. his little internal dialogues in choices of master gamgee felt so realistic and it's just so sweet and sad to see how devoted he is to frodo🥺

Audrey Zambrano also been noticing that frodo is compared to elves like a lot? gildor names him elf friend in 3 is company, he speaks the most sindarin out of any of the hobbits, sam says he has an elvish air about him during the end of the chapter where faramir is introduced iirc, him using galadriel's phial parallels the story of earendil with the light of the silmaril, invokes elbereth (varda, the vala most beloved by the elves) twice as far as i can remember (once on weathertop and again in shelobs lair). and theres the other obvious connection but no spoilers

i js find it interesting that hes tied to elves so often... especially since sam loves elves... hmm🧐

Audrey Zambrano i also was looking at some translations earlier and found out that amon hen means hill of sight - i found that super ironic since thats the place where frodo first conceives of sauron in the form of an eye! also no spoilers but the way that the scene from the mirror of galadriel returned in choices of master gamgee was like both heartbreaking and like INSANELY good. i never realized that was what sam meant during that scene in the movies bc obvi he wasnt in the mirror of galadriel scene. just wowww i love tolkiens writing so much. also the descriptions of minas morgul were super creepy and im like such a big fan of the way tolkien describes settings. and i loved the gollum pov for a couple of pages! the other day my teacher asked me where i would want to visit if i went to middle earth and i originally was going to say rivendell or lorien and like my answer is still prob lorien Buuut i do think it would be awesome to get a glimpse of minas morgul🤔
