The difference, it seems, between YA and Adult Fantasy is that when there are roving monsters about murdering regular towns people and the city is at risk of falling into shambles... the main characters dont just mention that its happening as a way to raise the stakes or explain their actions. It skewers scenes. It disrupts witty banter and flirting. If the worlds falling apart... make it feel like its falling apart.
