We meet this character who has been hollowed out, but her dementia is not her whole story. I think that it is what separates this from less substantial books featuring MCs with dementia that look at their lives solely in terms of the tragedy of what is lost. This meaningful story about different kinds of personal and creative commitment shows a life. One curtailed but not rendered less important by Alzheimer's.

This was starting to ebb a bit for me, then we got to Dava's POV, and it picked right back up. It is amazing how her story changed everything we thought we knew about the relationship we learned about from Barr. This is some deft writing.

Already pulled into this, and I just started it on my morning commute. I usually don't like stories about people and their dogs, but Luna is different somehow. She has seen too much. I am more invested in her than in Dava, who sort of earned her betrayal. And was it a betrayal? Luna, though? She was betrayed by all the humans and was powerless to reclaim herself.
