Went in blind, right after reading A Court of Splintered Harmony…the whiplash warrants an ER visit. THIS IS GORGEOUS. It may not be a fair comparison, but I appreciate how Marquez, unlike Maas, can describe sex-specific anatomical happenings without a hint of ick - for example, he describes the cultural significance of scrotal hernias within the port town’s male population and evokes a sense of delight and magic.
