I take back all I said. Dostoyevsky is a god. Lebedevs rant about about humans need for self preservation was basically half the book of Ishmael by Dan Quinn. Hunger and starvation are symptoms of over population. We make too many people and disproportionately disperse the food and now food and people are wasted. The food gap mirrors the wealth gap. No balance. I’m glad he put me onto Malthusianism.

Honestly not my favorite part of the book since the last review. A lot of incoherent rambles. The plot was hard to follow. There was some good stuff in there but a bit of a slog to get through. Maybe it was just me. It’s like a soap opera right now.

Decided to read this book while having an ocular migraine today. Of course it was the chapter where Lev had the seizure. Thought I was going insane. It’s like a reaction was bubbling inside him and he was an outsider in his own life. I need to reread part 2 chapter 5

Crazy how the first 200 pages were one day. And I was hooked. Dosty has an impeccable way of setting the scene. It’s like you’re every person at once. I can imagine the subtleties you’d catch analyzing this book with each character as the protagonist in their own story. Something for everyone. Is this book to say that the kind hearted truly are idiots?

This is such an enjoyable read. The characters all have such strong personalities with a complex power dynamic building like a web between them all. And then there’s the prince just being bounced around through them all, with no power or want for it.

Man this book is captivating. I was not expecting to get walked up to the Guillotine like that. A very thought provoking chapter

Some heavy table setting going on here. Everyone so concerned with their image, then there’s our prince, absorbing, and philosophizing over calligraphy. Captivating read because the story is juicy.

I’m excited for the rest of this book. The first chapter was the equivalent to the long running text before Star Wars. Myshkin is about to be thrown like a pinball around Russia it seems
