I would not have liked this book as a child, not because its bad, but because I would have been too stupid for it. This story has so much going on and the theological and scientific muddling is great but the protagonist is literally a 12 year old who cannot sit still for 2 days and never wants to grow up. Ooh we love Lyra being Eve leaving paradise, but also being Moses with the Gyptians and leading people away
