I don't know if this book really needs to be almost 500 pages long as it feels long-winded in places and the plot isn't always that interesting, but I do like the insight into Japanese food culture and how you always have a good idea of how everything looks, feels, and most importantly tastes and smells which is not something you get that often in literature these days

Reading this because another guest in the local park recommended it, turns out to be a Japanese novel about a journalist interviewing a woman serial killer who seduced most of her victims through her exquisite cooking. So far it's very informative about Japan's food culture, and the author is quite good at describing not just the taste but also the smell and texture of all the food prepared.
