Here are some books I've read recently that I have really enjoyed:

Archivist Wasp by Nicole Kornher-Stace is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where ghosts roam the earth and disturb the world of the living. The Archivists job is to capture ghosts when the disturb human settlements and try to learn from them what happened to cause the previous human civilization to collapse. It's got fantasy, horror and scifi elements and I found it really captivating.

Heirs of Grace by Tim Pratt is a story about a woman who inherits a magical house from a previously unheard of relative of hers. Add in jealous siblings who she has never met, and lots of snarky humor. This one kept me very entertained.

The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes is about a rag-tag band of fantasy rogues who plot to break in to a palace and steal an ancient artifact from a corrupt noble. Lots of humor and adventure and magic and unicorns.

Not sure if any of these are your jam, but if they are your jam, then I'm sure they will keep you as entertained while travelling as they kept me.
