Bougainvillea and jasmine, are they hardy in Pennsylvania? I'm pretty sure this is where the book is set. Anyway, just want to repeat that bougainvillea doesn't really have a scent. And maybe the plants are in pots. Confederate jasmine is hardy outside of zone 9, but it's not technically jasmine. Bougainvillea and jasmine can't take much cold.
