Having seen the series first, it is an adjustment to having the story set in the 1980's and there being no reference back to present day technology. But I find that Atwood's writing is poetic. I recognise some of the techniques that were encouraged in my MA (Creative Writing) and she uses them so effectively. The way the TV series jumps around in time is certainly indicative of Atwood's writing style. LOVING THIS!

It is still interesting to have seen the way this book was done on TV and then the book. The order of events has been moved around and in both they make sense.

Atwood allows Offred (who is not named as June in the book, but Atwood recognises it is a likely name for her) to spend time in her head and muse away, linking thoughts and ideas - scatting almost, I guess you could call it.

Pity it's just one book.
