Because much of this story is close to home I found this book very interesting. The history of tarpon fishing, the natives that lived in Florida crossed with the Spanish who almost starved when the bays, and Gulf were full of food, I found compelling.
This book helped me square my feelings (maybe further my journey) about environmentalism. Most interesting was the Louisiana Shrimp Festival became the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum festival. Both are needed but where were the people looking out for the saw grass in lower La.? I'm for oil but the oil companies had free reign for too long. Too many canals dug. -mike in Pensacola
