Anne of Windy Poplars - published almost 20 years after books 1,2,3 and 5. Probably written to finally cover what Anne did with herself the three years she waited for Gilbert to finish medical training so they could get married. Half the book is letters to him. A lot of amusing anecdotes about the strange people in the town where she is head teacher at a high school. Definitely not the best of the series.

Anne of the Island - Anne goes to university on the mainland for four years and persists in telling herself she doesn’t love Gilbert. Meanwhile Avonlea sees something like four weddings and an equal number of funerals. Ok, but a bit heavy handed on the life lessons and descriptions.

Anne of Avonlea - I liked this a lot better than the first book, so I feel encouraged to continue the series sooner rather than in another year.
