I really enjoy the atmosphere, the character of Joe Bain in the first book. How is the mystery in this second book? I hope it doesn't get in the way of the atmosphere, the way Vance is so natural writing small town life.

The mystery is prominent of course but not so much as distract from the Vance-stuff.
