I usually don't like fifties writing. It's too busy making a statement to actually communicate, much of the time. I started this, figured out where I was, and almost backed out again. I'm glad I didn't, because it's been a fun read. I doubt I'll read the second mystery in the book, however. I can only take so much of that "Hey, babe, let me knock back my Scotch and we'll do everything according to MY plan!"
