Does anyone know if US bookstores actually get their stock of newly released books before the release date, or only on release date? It baffles me how local suppliers are unable to get new releases any sooner than two weeks after the release date.

Ashley I used to work at a Barnes & Noble, and normally books arrive anywhere from 1-7 days before the release date. They are definitely there before the release date, otherwise shelvers wouldn't have time to get them out on the floor. It depends on how popular the book is as well. For HP, for example, they were there the day of the midnight release parties and basically under lock and key. But I've seen average books arrive a week before, and then sometimes shelvers will just put them out on the floor even before the official release date. I got a new Abercrombie book like that early one time.

I'd imagine getting the books across the Atlantic ocean might be a bit of challenge, though? Or maybe your local booksellers just aren't bothered by getting them late?

Eon Windrunner Thanks so much Ashley! Now I know these local guys are just lazy... Grrrr! I WANT MY BOOKS AND I WANT THEM NOW! Sigh, I should just open my own bookstore.
