So I'm currently 14 books behind schedule and I'm wondering if others who are behind are considering lowering their goal. There's still time to catch up and I don't really want to lower my goal, just wondering what some other of you peeps are doing. Worried about it, not thinking about it, or just continuing to press on. Thoughts?

At some point i looked at my goal and saw i needed to read more to get there. I did have a weak moment, but in the end i decided that i read for my own pleasure, not for that goal...I know i set that at the start of the year, but it shouldn't come before enjoying reading, right? It is for fun,not an obligation....

I agree, or pick up some Tor.com shorties! Sometimes I feel like I am 'cheating' but then again I like it better than lowering my goal and whatever keeps you motivated is best! It isn't worth feeling discouraged over. I have found some excellent new authors that way too! Win / Win!!
Excellent advice ladies and thanks for that. I think at the end of the day, I would very much rather read for enjoyment and not to reach a number. :)
There is still time to catch up, as long as you still enjoy having this challenge it is good but if it makes you feel anxious then it would be better to lower it. We already have many worries in life we don't need more from our form of entertainment :P
I was like 14 books ahead and now I'm 3 books behind. There is still time to catch up. I don't like lower my goal either.
I would suggest reading some that are novella or just shorter reads. Ones that won't take long to get thru. That way you can play catch up without a lot of work for yourself and keep you from lowering your number. At least pick ones you think you will really enjoy too so that way you don't feel you are short cutting it this way.
there are so many stressful things in our lives that we don't need to stress over the reading goal, however if you manage to do that and lower the goal you are a stronger person than I am so I'm gonna share some tips from "a friend of mine": try to remember some titles from previous years that you haven't checked yet and reread them really really fast (like the first and the last page), even if they are bedtime stories from when you were a kid, I'd found it legit! And if you are really desperate maybe you can check the titles now and read the stories next year... I'd never do that obviously... just saying...
I worry about this too! There is still time!! No need to lower your goal! Last year I went as far as adding a cookbook I read!
don't worry - a GR challenge should not add to your stress. I'm now books behind schedule too. That has never happened in three years, and I'm fine with it. For me the GR challenge is just a neat way to keep track of how many books I read a year. My new job at the moment doesn't' allow me as much as I thought. It is what it is. At the end of the year, if you are still behind read a few novellas - those help with the stats.
