Williams held off on the payoff almost too long, and the conclusions may gave been foregone, but this still brings the story to a respectable ending.

The civic engineering of this city, with canals that double as moats and several concentric walls, seems a bit improbable.

Ah, so the battle scenes are where this book earns its keep. Well realized, and an opportunity to get back into Tegestu's head.

I hope part of this story involves the uncontrollable nature of cultural intermixing, because this is a perfect example of it.

Ain't no Prime Directive here, folks. We'll see how Williams addresses the ethical concerns.
