~Dani~ Depends on the book. Some I have trouble getting the words out and have to walk away a few times before I can finally put together enough words. With other books, it can take just a few minutes because I can't STOP talking about the book so the words come easily.

Thanks Dani! I struggle a lot of the times and have to walk away too. Just getting frustrated when I battle to get words on paper and it take 2-3 hours for just a basic review. Thought it would be interesting to hear how it is for everyone else. I really wish I had way more of those words pouring out moments :)

message 3: by Mayim (new)

Mayim de Vries An hour or so. But I usually let it simmer in my head for a day.

I definitely need to simmer it some, thanks Mayim.

Oh I would feel so bad folding corners - but the point you make of notes or bookmarks is a good one as I tend to forget all of that. By the end of the book I usually have nothing! Thanks Halima :)

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin It's takes me about 2 hours if I'm doing a normal review with pics etc and then having to copy them to my blog. I usually write down page numbers on scrap paper if there is something o want to remember. To be honest I'm tired of reviewing. It takes to much time and then trying to get to all of my friends reviews which I don't get to do for everyone because it's takes hours more out of the day. Some of my reviews have become short with just a few words and not blogging everything. I used to be happy doing reviews and finding the right gifs and pics to go with them, but it's just too much with my mental and medical issues 😕

🙁 You should rather take it easy on the reviews then Melissa - I am happy enough just seeing your rating! Thanks for the tips though!

Kaya Honestly, a few days, sometimes even a week. Depends on a free time I have and on the intensity of my need to rant on the book.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin Thanks, Eon 😊

Great to know, thanks Kaya :)

message 11: by Ivan (new)

Ivan Depends. Usually day or so but sometimes I already have formed opinion far before book ends. Malazan for example I known what I will say even before I started the last book.

message 12: by Mili (new)

Mili Cool to see how everyone works on a review!
I keep it simple most of the time...so from 10 to 20 minutes. Im not good with words so sometimes it takes me longer to come up with what I want to say. And I dont do any hardcore reviews, just a small summary on likes and struggles so that friends know how I went through the book.

message 13: by Rob (new)

Rob Beck Being fairly new to the reviewing game ;) I find that I spend a fairly short amount of time (probably between twenty minutes to half an
hour) on a review. I tend to focus on what I did or did not find enjoyable about the story rather than summarising the plot as, to my mind at least, that is the author/blurb writers job. Great conversation by the way!

Awesome thank you Mili. I agree, very nice to get some perspective on how others do stuff :)

message 17: by 7jane (new)

7jane Depends on how much text I make from my notes and loose opinions. The most recent one took about 5-10 mins, but with longer one, maybe 20? Without my notes I would struggle more, that I know :)

Taking notes or using bookmarks for the important stuff does sound like it helps a lot 7jane!

message 19: by Derpa (new)

Derpa My reviews are not particularly long. 30 minutes? Then again, my computer screws them up often, so in about a third of the time I have to restart the whole thing. Yes. It's ridiculous.

Hopefully you save often?

message 21: by Derpa (new)

Derpa Starting to now. Also, I am having notes saved previously, so at least I can recreate my thought processes.

message 22: by Luna. ✨ (new)

Luna. ✨ This is totally embarrassing considering how crap my reviews are, but it's a long process. I take notes while I read, so write down the main points I want to talk about then after finishing the book, I'll do a draft, then edit everything and post (even then I swear I forgot so much I wanna talk about). But the writing process takes me anywhere from 30 mins to three hours. 😊 I procrastinate so much. Example, my Way of Shadows Review took 40 mins compared to my Darkness that Comes Before which I literally thought about for a month.. Haha😂

Sarah, that sounds a lot like me! :) And to crap reviews I say POPPYCOCK! Love your reviews and they are always great.

message 24: by Nenia (new)

Nenia Campbell About half an hour for short reviews, about forty-five minutes/an hour for long ones!

message 25: by Sade (new)

It helps you remember everything by doing the review so soon after reading right?

message 28: by Petrik (new)

Petrik Mine... hours... always. Especially when it's a 5 stars book xD

message 35: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam Less than half an hour and for some reason I always write my review immediately after I finish it don't know maybe I'm desperate or I want to get my exact feelings in and depending on the book I have either lots to say or not much at all so they vary from being long or short and unfortunately my some of my reviews suffer from grammar and punctuation problems because of my laziness but I'm learning to be aware of my writing so yeah I'm slowly working on improving my reviews

Thanks for your reply Ahdam! I think writing it immediately after definitely helps so that is very wise of you and not desperate! I have to edit my reviews a gazillion times as well as I type like a drunk monkey :D

message 37: by Eric (new)

Eric Plume It depends on the book and how much I have to say about it - and for some reason this has very little to do with how much I liked the book. Some books provoke more thoughts in me than others, and I can't really say what the rhyme or reason is. As far as time spent, its usually somewhere between 15 minutes and 3 hours. The longest I spent on a review was a little over four hours.

Also, I usually have to start the review right after I finish a book - like, within a half hour of finishing it - otherwise I find I don't have much to say and therefore don't feel like writing anything at all. Sometimes I'll read a book, set it aside, read it again later and then write my review, if it was a book that really baked my noodle.

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books Depends on the book. But, on average, writing a review takes an hour.

message 39: by Audrey (last edited Sep 12, 2017 12:41PM) (new)

Audrey Five minutes? They're usually fairly short, and I type fast. I haven't put images in yet. The longer reviews usually mean there was more to criticize. If I love it, there's not much to say beyond "great characters, great plot, great writing." I also think about things I want to point out as I'm reading.
