I am glad I read The Book of Lost Things before I started this book of short stories, as I doubt I'd have bothered otherwise. Nocturnes is very well-written; I find psychological horror more unsettling than straight-up bloodbath horror, but also more appealing if that isn't a complete contradiction in terms. I'll keep going with this, for now.
