since the guy who recommended this to me is a huge fan of Dune, maybe I should be surprised by how bored I am with this story so far. It isn't bad. It just... doesn't have any heart. The characters are all cold and calculating and everything sucks for everyone but OH, here, let's spend 40 minutes talking about how magic works! Only slightly less boring than counting the cars that pass me on i-45.
