I am motoring along through a mystery for a change. Canadian greats Gail Bowen and Howard Engel, weave their novels so much about the lives and families of their protagonists that you are invested. Even if a mystery is not always personal to them as this one is so directly and poigantly to Gail's character; the emotion-based perspective always makes even the mystery-solving process feel personal for their readers.

I am sticking with a pair of Canadian mysteries. We switch from Howard Engel near the Niagara Escapment, to Saskatchewan's capital city. This heroine tells a very personal story from volume I, about a husband's senseless murder. They were invested in provincial politcs, she still is. Four books and a few years after, the teen killer is dead, his eerie wife lurking. Joanne's youngest son wants to know everything.
