To be able to follow the story fully and not get confused, it's better to have read the first 3 1/2 books: To Love a Lord of London, the Regards of a Rogue, The Lords of Love and Gaining the Gentleman. Only then you can appreciate June and Mark's background and Martin and Abigail's story.
