He bases some of his thoughts on the embryology of Ernst Haeckel's Naturliche Schopfungsgeschicht, even though much of the evidence in that work (including the crucial woodcuttings) was known to be fake even in the same year (L. Rutimeyer, Referate). This cowardly compromise is highly disappointing, though most of his other points are valid.

I love how he talks about miracles being the very plot twists that are central to the story of History (particularly the resurrection: if Life Himself had to die, it couldn't possibly be permanent)

Ah, things get much better in this chapter (VII). I love how he dismantles so deftly the disdainful thought of proud scientists against people of earlier ages (as though they did not understand at all how Nature works, simply because they did not understand it in as much detail as we do today

So far his take on Rationality I general feels like he is turning his head inside out and then gesturing at various parts of his brain, explaining the importance and function of each. The problem with this (aside from the fact that it makes for a very disturbing read), is that while your head is inside out, you can't see clearly enough the parts of your brain that you are currently investigating.
