Very different. I finished the book about a month ago, and only recently decided that I liked it. Annihilation has proven to be one of those books that less-than-comfortably weasel their way into you and make you mull it over rather than immediately react. Or, at least that's true in my case. I liked it. I'll read the next one soon.
