I highly recommend it. While it was sometimes a bit long-winded in matters of cetology and whale lore, those parts still served a mood-setting purpose; the parts where genius shone through were well worth the sometimes digressing, droning punishments of trivial whale minutiae. It had numerous instances of perfection in prose, and I loved Melville's poetic--even prophetic--meditations on human imperfection and unhappiness.
