She decides to find out what he wants considering he was the one that told her to ask Mickelmas what happened to him and why he could set himself on fire just like her.

They found weapons to fight the Ancients with, and they practice them but cannot figure out how to use them. So they gets magician help and they finally learn how to use them. They are attacked by the Child Eater and they use the weapons against him and they wound him badly so he flees. It is the first every victory for London in a very long time. She accidentally visits R'hlem in the astral plane and they talk.

Henretta and Blackwood go to a council meeting where they learn the Queen was attached by the Rhelm the skinless giant. He demands that they hand over Henretta. They refuse, now they journey to another land to find answers on how to defeat the other beings.
