Socrates shows why philosophy is not merely the study of theory, or the ability to become good at talking to other people as if you know something. However, he does not positively define philosophy. But he does strongly imply philosophy is about bettering oneself, not about being able to give impressive lectures to uneducated people. Philosophy as akin to physical exercise, not professional pedantry.
