How anyone can think that Tolstoy is attempting to glorify adultery has clearly not read this novel. Every chapter, after the affair begins, that features AK and Vronsky is deeply uncomfortable because it’s deeply real. However, reading more about Levin is good for the soul. I particularly love his friendship with the silly Oblonsky. There are many moment where Tolstoy prefigured the Russian Revolution.

Vronsky is a real dandy. Anna is also not nearly as virtuous in his heart as I remember from my first reading attempt. She is calculated and manipulative in many of her actions.

Interesting how in 64 pages or 16 chapters, AK has not been introduced but Tolstoy has take the time to develop the motivations and character of Levin, Vronsky, Oblonsky, and Kitty. Levin has already had his marriage proposal rejected.
