First update: This is a slow-burn project. It's an interesting followup to The March North, which was very confusing, declined to explain anything and moved at breakneck speed through an action-packed, high fantasy military campaign.
As a counterpoint, this story takes its good, sweet time carefully explaining how to use magic for science and engineering . Not terribly exciting, but fascinating.
