I gave up. Its tone seems so dated. I enjoyed the rich pickings: lots of fascinating information about the early days of mid-to-late twentieth century horror culture, but I was not drawn into King's depiction of that world, and I decided to send it back to the library early. I will probably pick it up again to extract certain pulp facts, but I would prefer an academic account.
