A ton of pages of mathematical concepts was a pian to get through. What was he thinking with that? Almost had to set the book down and walk away.
Finally back to Garcia finishing his story about the Sandoval's and I couldn't be happier. The mention of the Sandoval's "struggle against the merciless attacks of Garcia's plot" I was in love with this book again.

I pride myself on being emotionally dead inside but the story of Don Hilarion and Dona Dolores had me on the verge of tears. I am about 30 pages (two stories) past it and still the imagey of him at the desk is with me.
Also, I believe we met Dolores towrds the beginning talking about seeing her dead husband (or a man in his clothes).
Going to need a reread of this one.

Many great writers were born out of World War II. Reading Alfau I can't help but wonder how many literary careers were doomed because of it.
His storytelling is enchanting and has yet to be tried by anyone else. Perhaps, in a kinder gentler world he reigns as a god of letters...

I settled on Chromosome as my next read.
I believe I met Dr. De Los Rios in Alfau's other work: Locos. I have no recollection of Pete Guz though. He looks like he will be the one to watch. Then again, Alfau pulled so many tricks and turns in Locos, I'll due best to keep my eye on everyone.
