Half way through the Ornithological Biography, much more enjoyable then the Mississippi River Journals, the avian genocide is interspersed with very good observations and well written anecdotes.

Audubon's writing in the essays to accompany the plates is very readable. Hard to get past the constant wholesale nineteenth century slaughter of everything though.
