Going very well so far:
Character interaction is very well done, I'm finding myself concerned for minor characters and the things that will affect their lives.
There is a slight 'Cabin in the Woods' (film) feel about the current place I am, where an event I just read seemed to have several potential ways to branch off to make for excellent rising action. Excited to see where it leads!

Book one finished with a fantastic insight into the inner workings of the antagonists. A glimpse at political unrest makes them seem far more three dimensional than they had appeared through the rest of the book. Looking forward to further developments!
Still looking out for that strong female character though... So far we're very much in the realm of distressed damsels

Interesting addition of a new protagonist story line, seamlessly included into the writing. Also great because I like the character and was worried they might die...

I don't know a thing about Raymond Feist, but if I had to guess I would say that he is an idealist. His characters are passionate but also compassionate which, so far, has lead to conflicts that begin as fights, progress to reasonable discussion, then end in agreement. Rarely in life is this sort of interaction so commonly observed (such is the pity). The downfall so far is lack of strong female characters.
