Oh! To my shock, this account of giant Chinese pyramids at Shensi (Shaanxi) is apparently based on an actual thing. I think we can discount any of Anderson's assertions, however: 'The east was aqua-green; the south was red, and black was for the west. The colour of the northern sides was white. These pyramids had a flat top and there [were] traces of yellow up there.'

And of course, once Our Heroes fix up the car the warlord immediately sails it over an embankment and nearly dies. They leave, because he keeps pestering them to fix it. 'And even more frightening, buddy, he decided I should marry his oldest daughter. That girl was about five feet tall, weighed at least three hundred pounds, and she smelled like a goat.' Double ugh.

Tall tales of China from a man called Doc Anderson - a professional psychic who, the Internet tells me, died in 1980 because he tried to wade out of his car during a flash flood. He meets a local warlord, who rides around (drunk, in a fur coat) in a fancy car for which he freely admits he killed a man. It's currently pulled by oxen. His people periodically attempt 'repairs' by hitting the lazy car with sticks. Ugh.
